Tata Motors (formerly TELCO) founded by the legendary JRD Tata is India's largest automobile manufacturer. Aligning business opportunities with the objective of nation building it produces a wide range of vehicles combining technological excellence and product innovation - from heavy duty trucks to light commercial vehicles and passenger cars. This automobile giant chose TVS Logistics Services Limited to manage its supply chain.The operations for our numero uno customer which began in Nov 04 with the transport of wiper motors and starter motor alternators from Chennai to its PCBU- Pune soon grew in size, spread and volumes. Out of the 3200 components that go in the making of a passenger / commercial vehicle a majority of them are sourced from TVS group companies. Tata Motors has its world class manufacturing facilities at Pune for Passenger Cars and Commercial Vehicles. We manage three large warehouses - the one at Hinjewadi Pune with an area of 1,57,000 sq.ft. built by us to meet the exacting specifications of our customer is the largest and most modern besides the 45,000 sq. ft. open storage space. Together they cater to the component and spare parts requirement of PCBU handling 1500 lines a day. In the neighbourhood of Chinchwad we manage another warehouse with a built in area of 1,00,000 sq.ft. catering to the requirements of CVBUln both the projects the entire work flow is process oriented and every task has its process manual. Safety is given the highest priority and TQM / Kaizen initiatives are aggressively pursued. Quality committee and customer meets set the norms for achieving excellence. The warehouse in Bangalore with an area of 80,000 sq.ft. houses a range of service spare parts for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles of Tata Motors. Our hub at Tathawadi manages a large volume T&IL operations - 35 vehicles ply on milk run collections in Pune; about 120 vehicles bring in materials on line-haul despatches from vendors in Chennai, Hosur, Bangalore, Gurgaon;vendor wise component segregation; despatch and redelivery to the production lines of PCBU. Innovative transportation and despatch management, vehicle planning to match delivery schedules and achieving optimal loading efficiency contributes to the success of this venture. Working closely with our customer are our employees who constantly strive to excel. Despite devastating rains in Mumbai Pune belt in July 05 there was no let up in supplies to the assembly lines and the production targets given by TML were met. Our commitment to service excellence and implementation of innovative SCM processes brought in direct cost savings which was generously appreciated by our customer.
